Markus Kern is Professor of Constitutional, Administrative and European Law at the University of Bern. He studied law at the Universities of Fribourg and Paris II, received his doctorate from the University of Fribourg and obtained an LL.M. from Harvard Law School. He also holds a degree in economics from the University of Bern. Before joining the University of Bern, he worked as a senior assistant at the Institute for European Law at the University of Fribourg. He is a member of the Board of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences and vice president of the Rail Transport Commission RailCom.
Markus Kern's areas of expertise include points of constitutional law and various areas of special administrative law, such as data protection law, environmental law and the regulation of network industries (telecommunications, electricity, gas, post and railways).
Markus Kern has been a member of the Swiss Science Council since 2024.
